Tenant #1 of its own product

Colophon

How this site is built — because “we eat our own cooking” should be checkable, not a slogan.

The short version

kilnworks.studio is built and operated on the Kilnworks platform: the same renderer, the same accessibility defaults, and the same deploy path that serve every client site. The studio is tenant #1 of its own product. These marketing pages are code in the platform repository, with tests asserting the claims on this page.

The numbers

  • The homepage is 36 KB — HTML, CSS, and every illustration, in a single response. That figure is measured by a test, not estimated.
  • 0 bytes of JavaScript on every marketing page.
  • 0 external requests: no webfonts, no CDNs, no analytics scripts, no trackers. The type is your system's own fonts.

Accessibility statement

This site runs on the same accessibility defaults the platform bakes into every site it ships, and three of them are gate-checked on every build: semantic landmarks with a skip link, one h1 per page, and AA contrast in both light and dark color schemes. Visible focus on every interactive element, honoured reduced-motion preferences, and full keyboard operability are built in but not gate-checked — we check those by hand before a change ships, and we would rather tell you that than let you assume a test is watching them. The navigation menu on small screens is a native disclosure element — it works with a keyboard and without JavaScript, because there is no JavaScript. An inaccessible page is treated as a defect here, not a style choice, which is why this paragraph names the checks we run instead of a conformance grade we have not audited end to end.

If anything here is hard for you to use, tell us at hello@kilnworks.studio and we will fix it.

Type, color & drawing

Serif display headings, system sans body, mono numerals — all system font stacks, zero downloads. The palette is “Charcoal & Ember”: warm ink on warm paper, the studio green for links and buttons, and ember orange reserved for emphasis and the fire motif. Every text/background pair is contrast-checked in both schemes.

Every illustration — the kiln on the homepage, the service and process glyphs, the browser-frame proof — is hand-written inline SVG on the same color tokens, so the drawings follow your color scheme like the text does. The fire itself never changes temperature: its gradient is the one constant across light and dark.

House rule: if the studio site ever needs a trick the platform doesn't have, that's a missing platform feature — it gets built into the core, not hacked in here.

Your site would be built the same way.
